This appears to be the first true peal in the method, and was published in the 1788 ringing book Clavis Campanalogia. This was the first appearance of the method anywhere. The composition may have became forgotten, as the early peals of Superlative rung some time after 1788 used false compositions, and William Shipway's book (published 1816) incorrectly refers to his own composition of Superlative as being the first.
